IH's Soiree and ICC Chess 2005
My day started at about 10:30 when Griff, Osama, Patrick, perhaps 'Bitch' (King's Chess Convenor 2005) and myself headed off to International House for a day of "chessfest". From what I can remember, I played 7 games in the round-robin matches, resigned my first two games and won my last four. That must mean I somehow lost my 3rd game. After all that we saw the final between St Leo's and St John's tied, with St John's winning overall. King's got a not-too-disasterous 4th place with our only team of 4. I was quite disappointed with the 3 out of 7 games I lost, but at least my other four had convincing wins. Andrei from St Leo's won the most games without dropping any, Griff got 6/7, Osama 6/7 and Patrick 3/7. Near the end of the day after 3 o'clock had ticked over, about 20 of us had a simul against Australia's best grandmaster. Not surprisingly, everyone including Andrei and Osama lost against him although Osama said he was one mistake from forcing a draw.
